Overview
Cognitiva is a memory, organization, and care-support application. It may handle sensitive information such as journal entries, medication lists, health notes, selected contact details, photos, audio notes, reminders, calendar information, and optional location information.
Information stored on the device
Personal journals, journal media, medication lists, reminders, health entries, imported sleep duration, caregiver details, emergency contacts, and local settings are stored in the app’s protected local storage. Cognitiva does not synchronize this personal care information through iCloud.
Private family sharing
Family Feed and Forum content is stored in a private Apple CloudKit share. The author name, post text, forum topic or reply, date, and optional feed photo can be read or changed only by the family group owner and family members who accept the invitation. The share is not open to other Cognitiva users.
The family group owner selects each member through Apple Contacts. Cognitiva sends the selected email address or phone number to Apple CloudKit only to locate the intended iCloud participant and create a read-write invitation. The selected name and local family roster remain on the device. Removing a member from Family Group revokes that participant’s CloudKit access.
Reports about family content are stored inside the same private family share. A report contains the target record, selected reason, date, and optional short explanation. It should not contain unrelated health information.
Apple permissions
Optional features request access only when used:
- Apple HealthRead-only Sleep Analysis access after Track Sleep is enabled.
- CalendarAccess to display and create events.
- ContactsAccess to the one contact selected in Apple’s contact picker. For a family invitation, the selected email address or phone number is sent to Apple CloudKit to identify the invited iCloud participant.
- Photos and MicrophoneOptional journal or Family Feed media chosen by the person.
- LocationCurrent position displayed on this device while enabled. Cognitiva does not transmit it to caregivers or emergency contacts.
- NotificationsLocal medication and routine reminders.
Permissions can be denied or changed in Apple Settings.
Medication catalog
Cognitiva downloads a medication-name catalog from the U.S. National Library of Medicine RxNav service. Searching occurs locally after the catalog is downloaded. Standard network information may be processed by that service when the catalog request is made.

Exports and user-directed sharing
A person may create a PDF and intentionally send or save it with Apple’s share sheet. The person chooses the destination. Once information leaves Cognitiva, the recipient or destination service controls that copy.
Retention and deletion
Local information remains until it is deleted in the app or the app and its local data are removed. Family content remains in the private CloudKit share until it is deleted by a participant with access or the family owner removes the share. Removing a family member revokes that participant’s future access.
To request review of family content, use the in-app Report action. For another privacy question, use the support route below and do not include private medical information in a public GitHub issue.
Security
Cognitiva relies on Apple platform protections, app sandboxing, device data protection, HTTPS, and CloudKit security. No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Protect the device passcode and review destinations before exporting sensitive information.
Children
Cognitiva is not directed to children and is not intended for the App Store Kids category. Private family features are subject to the published Community Guidelines.
Medical and emergency disclaimer
Cognitiva does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, or emergency response. Contact a qualified healthcare professional for medical questions. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.
